Manchester United Dramatic Comeback

31Liverpool’s win at Hull City earlier on Saturday saw Manchester United fall to the second place summit on goal difference.  The day after Manchester United played  Tottenham Hotspurs and regained their  first place position. Hotspurs rocked Old Trafford as they took a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy of Darren Bent and Luka Modric, both players capitalising on sloppy United defending.

Twelve minutes into the second period, though, the Red Devils were handed a lifeline when referee Howard Webb pointed to the penalty spot despite Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes taking the ball when challenging Michael Carrick.

And so the turnaround ensued as Cristiano Ronaldo dispatched and Wayne Rooney soon levelled with a shot at Gomes’ near post, before the former completed the comeback a minute later with a close-range diving header.

There was further salt in the wound to come for Tottenham when Rooney grabbed his second of the match before former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov helped bundle the ball over the line to ensure United returned to the top.
